Fire blotter: Boy on e-bike strikes a tree

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to the following 911 calls among many others between April 20 and April 26.
• Aid call: 10 a.m. April 20 (Auburn). After firefighters treated a woman for multiple injuries she had suffered during an assault, a private ambulance motored her to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
• Natural gas leak: 2:46 a.m. April 22 (Auburn). Firefighters and HazMat technicians were monitoring a large apartment building where a natural gas leak had been reported. They detected unsafe levels of natural gas and carbon dioxide so they began evacuating the premises. Working with a utility company, crews secured the gas supply and ventilated multiple floors until gas levels returned to safe limits. Personnel then turned the premises over to the utility company for further investigation and mitigation.
• Aid call: 8:26 a.m. April 22 (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters evaluated an elderly man who was displaying stroke-like symptoms, and a private ambulance transported him to a local hospital.
• Aid call: 7:16 a.m. April 23 (Auburn). Firefighters checked out man at a local shelter who was complaining of abdominal pain, and a private ambulance transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
• Residential fire: 6:23 a.m. April 24 (South Auburn). A King County Sheriff’s Office deputy entered a residence where he had spotted a fire while on another call and helped a kid out prior to firefighters’ arrival. When firefighters got there, they found a vehicle fire that had extended into the residence, so they deployed hose lines to extinguish the fire while they conducted a search to confirm no additional occupants were inside. Firefighters evaluated two residents for smoke inhalation, but no one required transportation to a hospital.
• Motorcycle accident: 6:30 p.m. April 25 (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics came to the aid of a 13-year-old boy who had been riding an electric bicycle when he struck a tree. Crews arrived to find the boy semi-conscious, and requested additional paramedic support. Paramedics and two firefighters transported the boy to Harborview Medical Center for further care.
• Aid service call: 1:45 p.m. April 26 (Auburn). Firefighters evaluated a woman with an acute medical concern before a private ambulance transported her to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
