Former Auburn Mountainview girls basketball coach Alyse Lacey has moved up the coaching ladder and was named the new head coach at Pacific Lutheran University on May 11.

Lacey had been the head coach at Auburn Mountainview since 2024 after taking over for her sister Caitlin Doherty. Lacey’s best season was 2024-2025, when the Lions went 16-5 and were one game away from the state tournament. She also took Auburn Mountainview to a second place finish in 2023-24.

In her coaching timeline, Lacey went from Kennedy Catholic as an assistant to taking over Kentlake for two seasons before coming to Mountainview.

She now takes on a new challenge, and was an impressive candidate.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Aly to Luteville! Throughout the search process, she demonstrated the passion and vision needed for advancing our women’s basketball program to new heights,” said PLU Athletic Director Mike Snyder in a press release.

“She has a focus on building strong relationships and developing the person first, which is core to the PLU way. In addition to her approach to the position, her deeply rooted connections to the local basketball community are invaluable and will be an excellent asset for her and the PLU women’s basketball program.”

Lacey will begin her coaching tenure on June 1 to prepare for the upcoming season. She’s an Eastern Washington University graduate and received her master’s degree from Grand Canyon University. “What stood out to me throughout this process was the people. There’s a strong sense of community and purpose at Pacific Lutheran University, and I’m honored to be part of it,” said Lacey.

“My goal is to create a program that competes at a high level while developing young women who lead with confidence, toughness, and character.”
