Young Eagles Day, formerly known as Auburn Airport Day, will make its return at the Auburn Municipal Airport.
This event is free, open to the public and fun for all ages, according to event organizers. It will be at the Auburn Municipal Airport, 2143 E. St. NE, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 11.
The goal of the event is to inspire the next generation of aviators in the community with live entertainment, food trucks and free airplane flights for children ages 8 to 17 provided through the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles program, according to a June 24 press release.
These flights are courtesy of volunteer pilots who offer their time, planes and fuel, all to give young residents the opportunity to ride in an airplane for the first time, according to the press release.
Online registration opened on June 1 and quickly filled up. However, there is still a chance through walk-up standby slots. These slots are offered until 1 p.m. on the day of the event, first come, first served, as availability is limited.
“Rebranding to Young Eagles Day centers our focus entirely on youth outreach and community connection,” said airport manager Tim Mensonides. “By providing these free flights, we are sparking passions that can turn today’s curious kids into tomorrow’s aerospace engineers and airline captains.”
Parking is available at the Cascade Helicopter Services gate, 1725 E. St. NE with free shuttle service to the main event area.
