Sound Transit has been working to improve access for riders at Auburn Sounder Station for years.

The current construction project centers around a new six-story parking garage at First Street NW and is planned to open for service in 2027 with approximately 675 parking spaces. The design and construction phase of this project began in 2021.

In order to allow for underground utility work, a full road closure at A Street NW between First and Second Street NW will occur from Aug. 3 to Oct. 30.

The closure includes restrictions on street parking and available sidewalks between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. everyday, according to Sound Transit’s July 27 construction alert.

Local access will be maintained for residents, emergencies and businesses who need to access the alleyway, according to Sound Transit.

Additionally, Auburn Regional Medical Plaza’s west entrance will be closed during this period of construction.

“Access to the plaza will be directed to the east entrance at First Street NW and North Division Street,” according to Sound Transit’s construction alert.

Flaggers will be present during this closure to help direct local access.

The existing Auburn Sounder parking garage, 110 Second St. SW, has about 633 spaces, so the second garage will double capacity for train commuters. The trains run between Seattle and Lakewood with stops in Tukwila, Kent, Auburn, Sumner, Puyallup, Tacoma Dome and South Tacoma.
