With a strong teen female fan base, Mahone’s singer/songwriter career has bolted to high gear with his debut single, “11:11,” as well as popular hit song, “Say Somethin’.”
For Mendler, songwriting started at the age of 6, catapulting her to star in Disney Channel’s “Good Luck Charlie,” singing the show’s theme song. While she started her career as an actress, her singing career has taken off strong.
Austin Mahone
Austin was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 4, 1996, and only got to know his father for 16 months, when he passed away. Austin rose in popularity in 2011 thanks to viral videos of his performances, which caused him to switch from traditional school to be home schooled.
Mahone debuted at No. 38 on the Billboard Social 50 chart in September 2011. He was the youngest to ever appear on the list. He rose to No. 28 on the list by the beginning of December.
His debut single “11:11” was released on Feb. 14, 2012, and his second single, “Say Somethin”, was released on Aug. 30, 2012.
Bridgit Mendler
Mendler was born in Washington D.C. on Dec. 18, 1992. It was when Bridgit’s family moved to Mill Valley, Calif., when she was 8 that she started to find her place as an American actress, singer, musician and songwriter.
Not only did she play Teddy Duncan in the Disney Channel’s Original Series Good Luck Charlie, but she also appeared in 2009 in the television film, Labor Pains. That same year Bridgit became a recurring character for the Disney Channel Original Series Wizards of Waverly Place, as well as appearing in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel.
The success of her performance in “Wizards” lead Bridgit to become the star of the Disney series, “Good Luck Charlie:, premiering in April 2010. That next year she appeared in the film, “Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas.”
She also starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie, “Lemonade Mouth”, where her character, Olivia, performed numerous songs. Two singles were released from the soundtrack featuring Bridgit, and both charted on the Billboard Hot 100.
Last year she released her debut album, Hello My Name Is …, and it debuted at No. 30 on the Billboard 200. The album has sold more than 74,000 copies as of November 2012. “Ready or Not” is the debut single off the album, and it became an international Top 40 hit, peaking at number 49 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Mendler has won four prestigious awards, including the Poptastic Awards as Female Newcomer in 2010; Teen Icon Awards as Iconic TV Actress in 2010/11; the Common Sense Media Awards in 2011 as Role Model of the Year; and in 2012 the PopCrush Award for About to Pop.
