Auburn High School hostS Oregon Shakespeare Festival actors Omoze Idehenre and Jeremy Thompson on Nov. 16 as part of the Festival’s School Visit Program.

In addition to interactive workshops, the actors will perform excerpts from Shakespeare’s works and other classical and contemporary literature in an assembly setting.

From October through December, teams of actors will tour schools throughout Oregon, Washington, California andKansas, engaging students from diverse backgrounds through live performances and active workshops.

OSF founder Angus Bowmer created the School Visit Program in 1971 as a way to reach a wider audience and over The past 44 years, OSF has reached more than million students in more than 7,000 schools in 12 western states.

In addition, 12 schools from Oregon are part of the School Visit Partnership Program, which provides teachers with professional development and classroom lessons. Actors are also in residence at Partnership schools for two to five days depending on the size of the school.

“Behind the School Visit Program lies the belief that actors, great literature and the imagination of the audience are all the ingredients needed to make captivating theatre,” said Joan Langley, OSF Director of Education. “An essential goal of the program is to provide active and personal involvement in great literature that will excite, inspire and even change the lives of students.”

The 2015 School Visit Program and School Visit Partnership Program are funded by generous grants from The Bowmer Society, the Sharkey Foundation, Joseph R. Parker Foundation, The Lamb-Baldwin Foundation¸ Helen Clay Frick Foundation, Starseed Foundation and also the Oregon Arts Commission.

The Auburn School District Board of Directors recognized Lisa Wilkinson, office manager at Chinook Elementary, for her outstanding service on Oct. 26 in the James P. Fugate Administration building.

A sign near Wilkinson’s desk reads, “Children are not an interruption to my work, children are my work.” She embodies that philosophy by researching and applying for grants to build a new playground, creating a “Snack Shack” for adults with the proceeds benefiting Chinook students, and even meeting daily with a student to set goals and reward his or her efforts.

“Lisa is truly a child magnet. She is a positive force in our school,” said counselor Jesse Rodriguez. “She greets parents and staff members with cheerfulness and an unending willingness to serve in any way she can.”

Wilkinson and her husband of 32 years, Clynn, have lived in Auburn since 1998. She has three adult children: one Auburn Riverside High School graduate; and two Auburn High graduates. Her first grandchild was born in February. …

The school board recognizes Zoe Fichtel, a fifth-grader at Chinook Elementary, for being an outstanding student.

Fichtel started at Chinook in kindergarten and has always been a top student. She is an avid reader, writes creatively and problem solves in math beyond her years. She independently works on challenge homework, completing research and science projects.

Since third grade, she has taken weekly French lessons from Chinook counselor Jesse Rodriquez.

“Not only does Zoe excel and challenge herself academically, but her kindness shines and positively impacts the social climate of our school,” said Jennifer Davidson, Chinook principal. …

Auburn’s Sean Reigle was named to the Columbia College(Mo.) dean’s list for the June-August and August-October sessions. To be named to the dean’s list a student must have completed 12 semester hours in a 16-week period and achieved a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a four-point scale. …
