Late congratulations are in order

Better late than never. May I still wish to say congratulations to Mayor Nancy Backus for having won the election as the first woman mayor of the City of Auburn? Same thing with Ms. Yolanda Trout for having been elected as the first Hispanic person to the City Council.

Our town of Auburn is moving on with the times.

And in reference to your Jan. 24 story, may I also congratulate Councilmembers Bill Peloza and Largo Wales on their appointments as chairpersons of National League of Cities steering committees. From what I understand, Peloza will be leading the energy, environment and national resources steering committee. He’ll do a good job.

Mr. Peloza is a good man and a highly visible active member and leader of several civic groups of Auburn. He’s a tireless go-getter and very much aware and involved in the improvements of our community.

I don’t know how a deputy mayor of our town is chosen from among the councilmembers. But I think Peloza should have been the one chosen for the position for the reasons that I’ve enumerated above. He would have been the ideal one as deputy mayor of Auburn. He’s always out there on the “lookout” for our town, and on the news, tirelessly seeking its improvements His unselfish commitments and his love for this town are well known to all.
