City to install new banners for the Veterans Day Parade’s 50th anniversary

To honor and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the City of Auburn Veterans Day Parade, new street pole banners will line the streets of downtown.
The “Our Heroes, Our Parade” banners will be displayed on Main Street from Auburn Way South to B Street Northeast and along Division Street from Main Street to 3rd Street Southeast from the end of September through mid-November.
The parade is Nov. 7.
Individuals, family members, business, or groups and organizations looking to recognize and pay tribute to the men and women in Auburn who are serving, have served or have given their life to the country in the U.S. Armed Forces are encourage to purchase a tribute banner.
These individualized tribute banners, sized 30-by-12 inches, will hang below the main “Our Heroes, Our Parade” banners. Six banner categories are available for purchase as follows:
• Active Duty (In Honor of) – $75
• Veteran (In Honor of) – $75
• Veteran (In Memory of) – $75
• Veteran Service Organization (Supported by) – $150
• Nonprofit Entity providing military or veterans services (Supported by) – $150
• Commercial Sponsorship (Supported by) – $300
To be eligible for a tribute banner, individuals must be serving on active duty in the Armed Forces (Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard, or be a veteran who was honorably discharged or given their life serving in the Armed Forces and be a permanent resident of Auburn or have an immediate family member residing in Auburn.
Companies, businesses, Veteran Service Organization and nonprofit entities that provide services to veterans or military also qualify to participate by purchasing a “supported by” tribute banner.
Tribute banner applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and the application deadline is Friday, Sept. 4 to be hung during 2015.
The City will determine all banner locations.
Banners will be removed in mid-November and put back up the following year in mid-September. After hanging, the individualized tribute portion of the banner will be permanently removed and given to the individual who purchased the tribute banner.
