Blotter brings needed levity

I absolutely love the humor in the police blotter. I open the paper to read that, then get interested in the other articles. While it’s true that crime is no laughing matter, there are plenty of places for emphasis on prevention and plenty of negative news in the world.

Making the stories humorous does nothing to encourage crime, nor does it prevent crime. But especially in hard times, it’s nice to find a smile.

The blotter never honors the criminals. In fact, it primarily points out their stupidity. That’s what we’re laughing at. Not the crime, not the problems. But laughter is precious these days.
