Virginia Edythe Pope

Virginia Edythe (Champ) Pope, only child of Edythe and Ralph Champ, was born in Winlock, Washington on April 5, 1920. Virginia (Ginny) met her husband Lynn Pope at Winlock High School. She graduated Valedictorian in 1937 and delivered the Commencement speech. She attended Northwest Business College and worked for New York Life in Portland. Virginia and Lynn mar-ried on June 8, 1941 and made their homes first in Castle Rock and eventually Algona where Virginia managed her husband’s Farmers Insurance Group business. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, knit-ting, working crossword puzzles, and playing with her grandbabies. She spent many years volunteering at Auburn General Hospital, serving on the Juvenile Court Conference Committee, and being a member of the Enumclaw Golf Course Women’s Club.Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, a beloved cousin Marjorie, her oldest son, Claude, and a granddaughter Christy Ann. She is survived by her loving husband Lynn, her two sons Joe and Scott with their wives Barb and Gail, Claude’s wife Mary Lou, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and her dog Sam. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.A memorial for Virginia will be held Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Auburn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia’s name to Auburn Regional Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary.
