King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer met with nearly 80 residents at a Dec. 5 town hall on Public Health and county services at Thomas Jefferson High School.

The gathering featured leaders from King County Elections, Public Health, libraries, Metro, and the Sheriff’s Office.

The panel of King County public officials included:

• Patty Hayes, Director of Public Health – Seattle and King County

• Major Greg Thomas with the King County Sheriff’s Office

• Director Julie Wise of King County Elections

• Director Stephen Smith of King County Libraries

• A senior representative from King County Metro

The panel discussion focused on a variety of services the county provides, specifically for first-generation and immigrant communities.

Hayes discussed strategies for preventing the spread of communicable diseases and answered questions about the impact the region’s homelessness crisis is having on community health.

“King County provides a variety of services to our community, but many new residents don’t realize the resources that exist,” von Reichbauer said. “These resources can be particularly helpful for immigrant communities as they assimilate and adjust to life in South King County.”
