Auburn baseball makes coaching change

Mentink out after 5 seasons; Elliott steps in as interim coach

Justin Mentink has been dismissed as Auburn’s baseball coach after five seasons with the Trojans, school district officials confirmed Tuesday.

Gordon Elliott, a longtime coach for all seasons and a teacher at the school, has been named as interim coach. Elliott, 65, retired in 2017 after coaching the Auburn football program for 16 seasons.

Under Mentink, the Trojans went 7-13 last season, 6-14 in 2017, 8-14-1 in 2016, 6-14 in 2015 and 3-17 in 2014.
