Mt. Baker’s school newspaper, The Canine Chronicle, is the best middle school newspaper in the state.

The Washington Journalism Education Association (WJEA) recently rated the paper on six different standards. The paper received five superior ratings, one excellent rating and earned the 2015 All-Washington award.

Mt. Baker journalism students are committed to telling the stories of their school in an engaging publication that reaches a diverse readership. The Canine Chronicle is published six times per year by students in Peter Warring’s semester-long journalism class.

The school submitted three editions of the paper from the 2014-15 school year for evaluation. The WJEA recognized only five publications across the state.

“Our parents, staff, administrators and students have done everything possible to support our newspaper,” Warring said.

In the six-year history of the paper, The Canine Chronicle has received “Special Recognition” from WJEA in 2011, “Best in Show” second place at the 2012 National Scholastic Press Association national convention and “Best in Show” from WJEA in 2013 and 2014.
