Armed car theft lead to pursuit and search for suspects in Auburn

The suspects, armed with guns, stole a vehicle before fleeing on foot and evading arrest.

Auburn police searched for three armed people suspected of stealing a car on the afternoon of Sunday, Aug. 1, said Kolby Crossley, Auburn Police Department’s public information officer.

Police engaged in a very brief pursuit of the vehicle before the three occupants got out and fled on foot in the area of 8th Street bridge; the pursuit only lasted a few seconds, Crossley said. Recent state legislation allows police to engage in pursuits when a violent crime has taken place.

After the suspects left the car police set up a containment area and brought in K-9 units to the scene to search for the suspects. The search lasted about half an hour and none of the suspects were found.

No one was injured in the car theft or the pursuit and search that followed, Crossley said. Police don’t have a suspect description at this time, Crossley said.

Between Friday, July 30, and Sunday, Aug. 1, there were 10 vehicle thefts recorded in the Auburn Police Department blotter.
