Auburn man arrested for highway shooting

The suspect is being held on a $500,000 bail.

An Auburn man was arrested for shooting at someone on Interstate 5 in early September.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), Zachary J. Jackson, 29, of Auburn, was arrested on Oct. 9 and booked into King County Jail on multiple felony charges. According to WSP, Jackson is the suspect in a September case where the alleged victim reported that they were shot at on I-5.

According to WSP, at about 11:55 p.m. Sept. 3, 911 received a call from the alleged victim stating that a man in a gray Honda Accord shot at them on I-5 near the Convention Center. The alleged victim said that they were uninjured.

According to WSP, when troopers arrived on scene, they observed several bullet holes in the alleged victim’s car. The alleged victim had the license plate of the suspect’s car and described the suspect as a white male with short hair.

“In the following days detectives reviewed dashcam videos, surveillance video and conducted multiple interviews,” WSP stated. “The suspect was identified and linked to a Seattle Police case, which occurred only minutes before the shooting.”

Another agency located the suspect’s vehicle, and he was arrested on an unrelated charge. According to WSP, it took possession of the suspect’s vehicle, searched the car, and found a firearm and other evidence that linked Jackson to the drive-by shooting.

According to the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention jail lookup portal, Jackson is currently at the King County Correctional Facility on a $500,000 bail. He has been charged with second-degree assault and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
