Auburn Environmental Park: a popular outdoor classroom

The Auburn Environmental Park recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of its most recent addition – the Wetland Trail Boardwalk.

The boardwalk opened to the public last April. The 1,200-foot-long elevated wooden structure has observation areas and interpretive signs that provide visitors with a unique opportunity to walk through and learn about a portion of the large wetland complex that exists throughout most of the 200-acre park.

The boardwalk complements a three-platform wildlife observation tower that was constructed in 2009.

As awareness of the new facilities at the park has spread, the number of visitors each month has steadily grown.

The park is also being increasingly used by post-secondary science classes, including classes from Green River and Highline community colleges.

The main entrance to the park is at 413 Western Ave. NW, Auburn. The park is open to the public year round, from dawn to dusk, seven days a week.
