A 24-year-old Auburn woman faces charges after an incident in early February where four people ended up getting shot, including herself.
On April 15, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Mylasia Weems, 24, of Auburn, with first-degree attempted robbery, first-degree burglary and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. These charges stem from an incident on Feb. 9, in which Weems is accused of attempting to rob a man after seeing him with thousands of dollars, leading to the man getting shot along with two others. She also got herself shot with the firearm she was using.
According to the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, Weems is currently at the Maleng Regional Justice Center, held on a $250,000 bail. According to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Weems’ court hearing was an arraignment on April 29, where a plea was entered (after press time).
Details of the case
According to charging documents, at 4:21 p.m. Feb. 9, officers responded to a reported shooting at the Phoenix Rising Supportive Housing Complex. Upon arrival, officers located two female gunshot victims, Weems, and a fourth alleged victim whom Weems is accused of attempting to rob. Weems was suffering a gunshot wound to her left arm, and the alleged victim had a gunshot wound to his left forearm. The alleged victim also had extensive blunt-force injuries consistent with being pistol-whipped.
Documents state that surveillance video at the housing complex captured Weems before, during and after the alleged offense. The video first shows her entering her apartment, and then leaving with a change of clothes on, including pink gloves, through the back window of her apartment. She’s then seen walking into a hallway to access the alleged victim’s apartment, and puts a mask on before entering.
Dust plumes from the wall are then seen on video, consistent with gunshots going through the wall, and Weems is subsequently seen running back to the apartment window she left from, while holding her arm close to her body. Documents state that the way her arm was pinned to her body is consistent with gunshot wounds that officers later observed.
Video footage captured only Weems entering and leaving her apartment during the incident, documents state.
The alleged victim stated that while he was in the apartment, a masked individual entered the apartment, pointed a gun at his face, and demanded money. The alleged victim said that after Weems entered the apartment, he fought for control of the gun, was shot in the arm during the struggle and then gained control of the gun and fired in a panic before fleeing.
Documents state that earlier that day, the alleged victim was displaying $5,000 in cash and counting it out, so Weems’ direct focus on the alleged victim is consistent with a targeted robbery. Video was found that supported that the alleged victim was displaying cash, documents state.
According to documents, evidence linking Weems to the crime includes that the two female alleged victims stated that Weems was present during the attempted robbery, the recovery of a backpack at the scene had her belongings in it, and officers recovered a pink glove with blood stains on it at Weems’ apartment.
