New VRFA fire station to open in north Auburn

The construction of the new Valley Regional Fire Authority’s (VRFA) Fire Station 36 in Auburn is coming to an end, although there is no official opening date yet.
The project is on schedule with an expected completion date of summer 2026. Station 36 will serve residents of the north Auburn area and is at 810 30th St. NE. The new building sits on 1.59 acres and will be 14,400 square feet, according to VRFA.
Funding for the new station is from a $96.5 millon capital facilities bond measure approved by voters in November 2023 with a total projected cost of $12.2 million.
The station is not yet staffed by firefighters, according to a July 30 Facebook post from VRFA. The engine crew at Station 36 will be composed of one captain and two firefighters.
When the station is staffed, there will be eight sleeping quarters as well as three full apparatus bays.
“Since the VRFA was formed in 2007, our call volume has nearly doubled,” said VRFA spokesperson Kelly Hawks. “This new station will enable improved resource distribution and faster response times by placing resources in one of our busiest areas.”
