Rep. Drew Stokesbary, R-Auburn, has welcomed his role as an appointed member of the Joint Legislative Audit Review Committee (JLARC).

The freshman legislator has made government accountability and efficiency a priority heading into the 2016 legislative session.

“As an elected official, perhaps my greatest responsibility is ensuring that state government operates effectively and is accountable to the people of Washington,” Stokesbary said. “For that reason, I was honored to be appointed to the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee by Speaker of the House Frank Chopp.”

In recent weeks, the committee has received auditors’ reports on Medicaid fraud, workers’ compensation claims management, and workforce development programs.

“I am committed to working in a bipartisan fashion with my colleagues from both the House and Senate to ensure we have the most efficient state government possible,” said Stokesbary.

The Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee works to make state government operations more effective, efficient, and accountable. The committee is comprised of an equal number of members from the House and Senate, and from each political party. Additionally, JLARC has been recognized as a national leader in legislative auditing by the National Legislative Program Evaluation Society.

The next scheduled meeting of the committee is 10 a.m. on Dec. 10.
