A suspected DUI driver’s 10 miles of bad driving on New Year’s Day spooks others

An Auburn man found himself the subject of a lot of attention last week.

But for 32-year-old Steven H. Kinggeorge, every bit of it was for the wrong thing.

Now he’s looking at possible jail time for DUI, hit and run and driving with a suspended license.

Shortly before noon, 14 different drivers on I-5 near Lakewood called 911 to complain about a man in a Dodge Durango SUV smacking into center barriers, weaving in and out of lanes and slowing down and speeding up.

According to police, the man got off of I-5 at the Nisqually exit but was soon back in the northbound lanes of the interstate.

Kinggeorge’s wild ride ended, according to police, when he crashed his SUV near the Bridgeport Way exit. Witnesses told police Kinggeorge next darted through oncoming traffic, leaped a fence and ran into the Springbrook Lane Apartment building in Lakewood.

State Trooper Gus Gill said that thanks to the actions of other drivers, nobody was seriously hurt

“They did exactly what we asked them to do,” said Gill.

Kinggeorge had been expected in Pierce County District Court Friday or Monday.
