Third Dimension Salon wins 3rd Best of Auburn prize

From the interior of the Fred Meyer to Division Street in downtown Auburn, Third Dimension Salon has made a name for itself. The salon not only has a fun and inviting environment with talented hairstylists and a bodacious salon dog, but it has also been named Auburn’s Best Hair Salon/Barber Shop.

Third Dimension had won the same award in 2022 and 2024, and for owner Deana McFarlane, a third win showcases her business’ warm atmosphere and client comfort. “We try hard to have it be a safe space for people to feel comfortable in,” she said of her four-chair salon.

And hairstylist Rachel Oelrich agrees tremendously.

“We make it about the client, we give them what they ask for. They’re greeted when they walk into a warm, friendly environment,” said Oelrich, who has been with Third Dimension for nearly three years.

Hairstylist Katie Francis has been working at Third Dimension for just over a year and she also loves the salon’s vibe.

“I love the homey environment, it’s very open. We’re so supportive with each other, like, let’s learn, let’s hit the ground running,” she said.

For both stylists, giving the clients what they want is a high priority, from styling curly hair (Francis’ favorite) to creating stylish shag and mullet cuts (Oelrich’s favorite) to keeping up with the latest hair coloring trends.

The salon also offers hair extension services, Brazilian blowouts, waxing services and even offers weekly specials, which can be found on their website.

“I love fashion colors and transformations,” said Oelrich. “A good haircut makes a world of difference.”

As Third Dimension grows — McFarlane has recently purchased Salon Bella Dea in Auburn — the focus on making a great salon for stylists and clients alike also grows.

“My hopes are that we start an apprentice program to do on-the-job training for future stylists and my goal is to have them start there,” McFarlane said.

While beauty schools are the traditional route for receiving a cosmetology license, McFarlane, who has been in the beauty industry for 12 years, believes that an apprenticeship is better for the stylist. “It doesn’t cost as much money as going to school and, even though you go to beauty school, you learn the most once you’re working in the field,” she said.
