Backus has done much for the community

I have been impressed with Nancy Backus for years as a councilperson and these past four years as our mayor.

I like the breadth of her extensive citywide involvement, so graphically displayed in her column from the desk of Mayor Backus’ column in the online City of Auburn reports.

Since becoming our mayor, Nancy has funded 11 additional city police officers. That’s very impressive and not a luxury in a time when violence is rampant in cities, large and small.

Also, the mayor helped the Valley Regional Fire Authority add staffing for a community medical technician who works with the most vulnerable citizens.

Furthermore, Nancy created and led a South King County affordable housing coalition to address the housing crisis in King County and to seek to keep South King County an affordable place to live.

Please, all of you, vote for Nancy Backus for mayor of Auburn.

As Auburn’s first official poet laureate I experienced Nancy Backus’s graciousness, and, as an Auburn citizen, I am proud to vote for Nancy again. She’s caring, efficient and amply fit for the job.
