Two suggestions for an official flower of Auburn, as proposed by Mayor Pete Lewis.

Viola tricolor hortensis, more familiarly known as pansy. Auburn: City of Pansies.

Or, probably more appropriately, Rhododendron macrophyllum (incidentally, our state flower). All rhodies lead to Auburn
