Your front-page story, “Caring for soldiers in harm’s way” on Annie McDonald (Aug. 11) was truly a profound and wonderful write-up on her.

I was touched. Ladies like her are rare and unique.

Yes, indeed, “her life as a compassionate caregiver, celebrated veteran … has been rich and rewarding” and if I may add, awesome.

Auburn is truly a city full of heroes and patriots. I am proud to say this is my town.

And better late than never, may I say happy 100th birthday to this lady and World War II veteran and hero. Thank you for your service.
