I was shocked to read about the possible demise of the 4H club for this state (Auburn Reporter, letters to the editor, Feb. 27).
My daughter grew and learned so much about people, animals and most of all, herself. She spent four years in 4H with horses. She attended the Pierce County Fair every year and spent quite a few hours preparing for presentations, displays and various horse competions. She went on to join the Appalousa club and continued to show her horses from Auburn to Arizona and Oklahoma City. Her experience in 4H prompted her to join DECA at Auburn High School. She eventually graduated in the upper-3.0 GPA and graduates from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University in May with a 3.0-plus GPA again.
I firmly believe that 4H was a major part of her personal evolution and maturity. I am one very proud dad.
What do we need to do to lobby against this potential awful failure? Kids today need this positive reinforcement that isn’t available anywhere else. My heartfelt wish is to try and do whatever it takes to keep this program alive and well.
