The relationship between Johannes Brahms and Clara Schumann, wife of composer Robert Schumann, is one for the ages.

What was it? Friendship? Love triangle? Something more, something less?

Join Auburn Symphony Orchestra musicians for an intimate concert that brings together the sublime music of Johannes and Clara in this most complicated of musical relationships, at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24 at Kent Lutheran Church, 336 Second Ave. S., and 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26 at St. Matthew Episcopal, 123 L St, NE, in Auburn.

The program includes Clara Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 1 and Johannes Brahms’s Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano, Op. 114. Featured are Auburn Symphony musicians clarinetist Denise Lum, violinist Emilie Choi, cellist Brian Wharton and pianist Tanya Stambuk.

At a chamber concert like this, audience members enjoy a more intimate experience and get up close to the musicians in a smaller setting.

Tickets: $20 general admission; $10 students. Purchase online at auburnsymphony.org, call 253-887-7777, or visit the box office at the concert.

Reserved seats may be purchased in advance or the day of the concert. Parking is free.

This concert is sponsored in part by the City of Auburn.

Auburn Symphony’s next chamber concert is Uncommon Voices: Music for Woodwind Quintet on March 6 and 8.
