Auburn tunes up for massive marching band showdown

Auburn High School’s 22nd annual Veterans Day marching band competition will be held Saturday, Nov. 8, beginning at 1 p.m. at Auburn Memorial Stadium.

The event, sponsored by the Auburn Band Parents Association, will feature some of the best Pacific Northwest high school marching band music, along with precision (marching) and drill (formation) performances.

More than 30 high school marching bands from Washington, Oregon and Idaho will compete in this year’s parade and field show competition. It is the Northwest’s largest and oldest marching band competition, according to Sue Hoffman, Auburn High School alumni band parent and Veterans Day coordinator.

Many of the bands will appear in the 43rd annual Veterans Day parade, beginning at 11 a.m. along Main Street, which constitutes preliminary marching competition. Among those are all three of Auburn’s high school marching bands – Auburn, Auburn Riverside and Auburn Mountainview.

Auburn’s Mayor Pete Lewis and his wife Kathy, Superintendent of the Auburn School District Dr. Kip Herren and Auburn High School principal Richard Zimmerman will present the awards.

The marching band competition benefits the band programs at Auburn High School, including marching band, pep band, jazz band, symphonic band, wind ensemble and percussion ensembles.

Ticket prices for all day admission are: adults $14, students (6-18) $7, senior citizens (62 and older) $7. Children under 5 are free.

The public is encouraged to purchase tickets from Auburn High School band members, with ID, as a percentage of each ticket they sell is credited to their student band account.
