Four Auburn schools are receiving Washington Achievement Awards for 2011.

Four Auburn schools are receiving Washington Achievement Awards for 2011.

Alpac, Gildo Rey and Hazelwood elementary schools were recognized for overall excellence based on averages. Gildo Rey also was awarded for its top performance in math.

Ilalko Elementary was specially recognized for closing achievement gaps.

The Auburn schools will be honored at an awards ceremony hosted by Mariner High School in Everett on April 25.

The Washington Achievement Award is a highly selective award based on schools’ performance according to the Washington Achievement Index, a comprehensive measurement of how schools in the state are performing over the three previous years.

The award celebrates elementary, middle, high and comprehensive schools for overall excellence and special recognition in: language arts, math, science, graduation rate, improvement and closing achievement gaps.

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education sponsor the award.
