Auburn police have arrested an 18-year-old man on multiple felony charges for driving through Lea Hill Park on April 20 and striking and injuring a 20-year-old woman.

According to the Auburn Police Department, the 18-year-old man struck the woman, believed to be known by the driver, in Lea Hill Park with a vehicle. First responders transported the woman to a local hospital for injuries suffered in the incident.

According to the department, police received reports of a vehicle driving through Lea Hill Park on April 20. According to the department’s public information log, police received the reports at around 2:25 p.m., with several callers advising dispatch that the driver of a black 2010 Honda Fit appeared to be intentionally trying to hit people in the park.

En route to the park, a responding officer passed the Honda Fit as the vehicle was leaving, and after the officer spotted the vehicle, a short pursuit began.

Dashcam footage of the pursuit from the Auburn Police Department showed the pursuing officer deployed a PIT maneuver on the Honda Fit with his patrol vehicle, resulting in the Honda Fit losing control and spinning sideways. The pursuing officer and a second patrol vehicle proceeded to block and trap the Honda Fit between the two patrol vehicles.

Police arrested the 18-year-old suspect occupant, booking him into the King County Jail on multiple felony charges, including domestic violence assault in the first degree, according to the department.

According to the department, early investigation leads officers to believe the incident likely serves as a domestic violence case, with the driver targeting a significant other.

Investigation into the incident continues, as of April 22, according to the department.

No formal charges have been filed against the suspect as of April 22.
