Auburn School Board recognizes outstanding staff member

The Auburn School District Board of Directors recently recognized Marianne Holt, para-educator at Mt. Baker Middle school, as the outstanding staff member of the month.

Holt, who has worked in the district for 25 years, spent two years working on the playground and as a classroom para-educator. For the last 23 years, she has served as library para-educator at Mt. Baker.

As the library para-educator, she catalogues, does book checkout, mends books and is integral in supporting the 1:1 Chromebooks inventory. She also is active in the school community, keeping score for fast pitch, gymnastics, wrestling and baseball.

The school board also recognized Luis Lujan, a fifth-grader at Pioneer Elementary, as the outstanding student of the month.

Lujan is well-liked by his peers because he is kind and thoughtful to everyone. He is polite, respectful and a role model for other students.

Though physically affected by cerebral palsy, Lujan does not see himself as having a disability. He participates in all activities no matter how difficult or challenging they are. There is no limit to what Lujan can do because he always finds a way to do it.

Outside of school he likes to ride his quad and enjoys spending time with his family.
