The Auburn Soroptimist Club recently honored the late Dario Cugini, making a $500 contribution to the Auburn Soroptimist Scholarship at Green River College in Cugini’s name.
A longtime Auburn businessman and a charter member of the Auburn Rotary Club, Cugini generously gave of himself to the community in many ways. He was a lively and intelligent man, a great conversationalist and keeper of many friendships over the years.
His wife, Jo, was a true partner, working side by side in their beloved Cugini Florist business for many years. Cugini’s was the go-to place for proms, weddings, funerals and special occasions.
One of Dario and Jo’s special interests was supporting education, in particular, scholarships at Green River. Jo has been a member of Soroptimist International for many years, served as president twice and supports the club and its activities. Soroptimist also supports education and was the first service club to endow a scholarship at Green River. The club’s $500 gift was made as a tribute to Dario and as an honor to Jo.
Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that improves the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. The Auburn club, chartered in 1947, has supported a variety of important projects and initiatives in its seventy plus years of serving the community.
