Auburn Valley Humane Society presents Barkfest & Rover Romp on Aug. 24

Event takes aim at largest fundraising goal to save homeless pets

The Auburn Valley Humane Society hosts Barkfest & Rover Romp on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Illako Elementary School, 301 Oravetz Place SE, Auburn.

In its eighth year, Barkfest and Rover Romp is an annual free family and dog-friendly event featuring a 3K and 5K run/walk along the scenic White River trail in Roegner Park.

The event includes canine agility demonstrations, specialty vendor village, contests, raffles and pet licensing.

The AVHS and its supporters are looking to meet a $35,000 goal to help save the lives of homeless pets.

Barkfest kicks off at 9 a.m. with an opening celebration and announcements from Phil Morgan, president and CEO of Auburn Valley Humane Society, and emcee Heather Lee from WARM 106.9 FM.

The Rover Romp starts at 9:30 am. The course sprawls along the White River trail and is flat and easy, accommodating all ages and ability levels. Registration is $35 and can be completed online at auburnvalleyhs.org/barkfest-rover-romp. All registrants receive an event T-shirt and a bandana for their dog at the $35 pledge level.
