Auburn woman arrested in connection with fatal shooting in Edmonds

Edmonds Police have arrested an Auburn woman and an Enumclaw man in connection with the fatal shooting of a convenience store clerk during a robbery on Feb. 21, 2020.

Police have not disclosed the names of the 26-year-old woman and 25-year-old man, who are looking at charges that include first-degree murder and attempted first-degree robbery. Police said the man will likely face charge for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Nagendiram Kandasamy, 64, of Edmonds, was killed on Feb. 21 at the 7-Eleven convenience store on 238th Street SW and Highway 99. At about 5 a.m., a customer found Kandasamy on the floor, unresponsive and bleeding, according to Edmonds police.

“The cowardly act that took the life of Mr. Kandasamy left a profound impact on his family and our community,” Edmonds Police Chief Michelle Bennett wrote in a statement. “From its first moments, the women and men of Edmonds PD worked tirelessly toward putting this case together and taking a violent suspect off the street … These arrests and charges are not a conclusion, but they bring us closer to providing justice for the Kandasamy family.”

Surveillance video shows someone in a jacket with a red hood enter the store, then jump on the counter and point a gun at Kandasamy.

Law enforcement officers from the Washington State Patrol, King County Sheriff’s Office and Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office employed a police K-9 to track the suspects, but could not find them.

Investigators did not say how they linked the two suspects to the slaying, but said the woman had previously been taken into custody during a March 15, 2020, search warrant operation in Enumclaw. Auburn police arrested the woman April 6 during a traffic stop.
