BNSF Railway honors During

The Burlington Santa Fa Railway Co. honored Auburn’s Terry During as one of its 2007 BNSF Employees of the Year in ceremonies April 7 at Fort Worth, Texas.

The Burlington Santa Fa Railway Co. honored Auburn’s Terry During as one of its 2007 BNSF Employees of the Year in ceremonies April 7 at Fort Worth, Texas.

During was awarded for his work in support of BNSF’s Vision and Values and strategic initiatives last year.

During, work equipment supervisor at Auburn, was honored as a member of a team that successfully planned and executed a maintenance blitz. The team relayed all rail in the Cascade Tunnel and completed the upgrade of high-voltage and fiber optic cable systems. He was one of more than 100 employees recognized during the ceremonies.

“We honor your achievements and your hard work, creativity and focus on efficiency,” Matt Rose, BNSF’s chairman, president and chief executive officer, told the honorees. “As we strive for continuous improvement, your contributions make a difference in the workplace and in the communities we serve.”

Olson’s Meats & Smokehouse recently came away with top honors at the Northwest Meat Processors Association convention in Redmond, Ore.

The business, located on the Auburn-Enumclaw Highway at 20104 SE 436th St., was selected grand champion for cooked sausages for its Portuguese link, grand champion for fresh sausages for its fresh Italian link, and best overall product for its smoke meat.

Olson’s competed against other businesses from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Northern California.

Free shredding

Shredding documents is a simple way to reduce the risk of personal information falling into the wrong hands. That’s why Sound Credit Union is sponsoring a free community shred day on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at its Auburn branch located at 2326 Auburn Way N.

Sweep time

The City of Auburn is seeking volunteers for the May 10 Clean Sweep project, a major community-wide volunteer effort to clean up and beautify Brannan Park, Environmental Park, Lea Hill Park and Shaughnessy Park.

Each park will have different projects such as planting, pruning, weeding, painting and more.
