The City of Auburn is requesting applications from residents of Auburn to fill a vacancy on the City Council opened by the recent resignation of Larry Brown, Pos. 6.
The termstarts once a candidate is appointed by a majority vote of the City Council, and expires on Dec, 31, 2025.
The Auburn City Council is a non-partisan, part-time legislative body. Council meetings are at 7 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of the month, Council study sessions start at 5:30 p.m. on the second, fourth, and fifth Monday of the month, with some exceptions. There may be other meetings to attend during the week as well.
The timeline for filling the council vacancy is as follows:
Monday, March 24, 2025: Applications due to city clerk by 5 p.m.
Monday, April 14, 2025: Candidate interviews 5 p.m.
Monday, April 14, 2025: Council vote (special meeting)
Monday, April 21, 2025: Swearing in (regular council meeting, 7 p.m.)
Any resident interested in applying must have resided within the City of Auburn for at least for one year, and must be a registered voter. Interested residents may apply online at auburnwa.gov, pick up an application form at City Hall (25 West Main Street) or may have the application mailed by contacting City Clerk Shawn Campbell at (253) 931-3055 or scampbell@auburnwa.gov.
The appointed Councilmember will have the same level of duty and privilege as all other councilmembers, Auburn City Councilmembers are compensated $1,667.16 per month during the length of their service.
