The Auburn community gathered for a special Memorial Day ceremony on a sun-graced Monday morning to honor the fallen.

The public joined City leaders, Mayor Nancy Backus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion members, Boy Scout Troops 401 and 398 and Pack 64, and other leaders for a ceremony in the flag plaza.

The cemetery displayed many American flags on the grounds, and each veteran’s grave site was decorated with a small flag. Auburn’s VFW Post 1741 donated the American flags.

Troop 401 also was active during the holiday weekend, cleaning grave-site areas of fallen soldiers in the veterans section.

The cemetery offered special office hours during the Memorial Day weekend to help families.
