Crane goes up at future Sound Transit garage site

Expect more noise and heavy equipment in the area around the Auburn garage construction site next week.

Expect more noise and heavy equipment in the area around the Auburn garage construction site next week.

Starting on June 3, Sound Transit will set up a new tower crane at the site at 1st and A Streets Northwest. The installation will take up to three days, and the crane will the remain in place until about August 2026.

The tower crane will have nighttime safety lighting as required, ensuring visibility during operation. Sound Transit has said it will work to minimize light spillovers into nearby areas.

Sound Transit estimates the garage will open in 2027. The $69 million garage with approximately 675 stalls will serve Sounder S Line passengers and users of Sound Transit Express and King County Metro services, according to Sound Transit.
