Firefighters extinguish brush fire at freeway interchange in Auburn

Multiple fire agencies battled a brush fire on July 20 at the interchange of southbound State Route 167 to westbound State Route 18 in Auburn.

The fire spread on a steep hillside, growing to approximately two acres in size as crews from the Valley Regional Fire Authority, Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, South King Fire and Rescue, Renton Regional Fire Authority, Port of Seattle, King County Medic One, and Zone 3 Rehabilitation fought the blaze, according to the Zone 3 department’s social media.

Crews contained the brush fire and stayed on site for several hours to find and extinguish hot spots and prevent flare-ups.

The fire resulted in no damages to homes and nor injuries to firefighters. The fire damaged one outhouse shed.

Officials temporarily shut down SR 18, west of SR 167, to traffic as a result of the brush fire.
