Fireworks mishap in Muckleshoot | Auburn Fire and Rescue Blotter

Valley Regional Fire Authority calls from May 26 through June 1.

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 210 calls for service between June 1 and May 26, among them are the following:

JUNE 1

Diabetic: 11:09 a.m., Pacific. Engine 38 responded to a woman complaining of high blood sugar and found her with a decreased level of consciousness and rapid breathing. Paramedics transported her to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

MAY 31

Fireworks Injury: 8:15 p.m., Auburn. Aid 32 was dispatched to an aid call at the Muckleshoot fireworks stands. On arrival, they reported that a man trying to light a firework had sustained burns to his hands and a wound to his chest. Firefighters and Medics treated the patient and then arranged for his transport to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment and evaluation.

MAY 30

Motor vehicle accident: 5:24 p.m., Pacific. VRFA units responded to an auto accident involving a tow truck with attendant injuries. Aid 31 and Battalion 31 found a car that had gone off a dirt road and landed in a deep gully. The brakes on a tow truck that had been trying to extract the car failed and it had coasted backwards. The tow cable bound up between the two vehicles, knocking the tow operator backwards into the gulley with the car landing over him. VRFA personnel secured both vehicles and got the injured tow driver out quickly using a backboard. He was transported to Auburn Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

MAY 29

Brush fire: 4:21 p.m., Auburn. Engine 32 responded to the Muckleshoot Fireworks Stands at 2600 Auburn Way South to extinguish a small brush fire sparked by fireworks.

MAY 28

Motor vehicle accident: 11:04 a.m., Auburn. VFRA Firefighter-EMT’s and King Country paramedics responded to a serious injury auto accident at 104th S.E. and Green River Road. A smaller Honda sedan had been broadsided by a large PSE work truck while trying to make a left turn. The sedan was badly damaged and the driver had to be removed using hydraulic rescue tools. The patient was taken to Auburn Airport for transport to Harborview Medical Center via Airlift Northwest. According to Auburn police, the man sustained non-life-threatening but life-altering brain injuries.

MAY 27

Motor vehicle accident: 6:24 p.m., Auburn, Lea Hill. VRFA units responding to the 32000 block of Southeast 104th to a report of an auto accident with injuries found a two-vehicle, low-speed accident. A pregnant female had hit her steering wheel and was experiencing lower back pain. Personnel treated the woman and an ambulance took her to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

MAY 26

Seizure: 8 p.m., (Auburn).

VRFA units were dispatched to a reported unconscious patient and found woman who had sustained a seizure. Although the woman had a history of seizures she had not taken her medication. An ambulance took her to St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma for further treatment.
