Just for kicks: Auburn joins effort to break world record

Auburn is joining martial artists across the United States in an attempt to break the world record for the most kicks executed in one hour simulaneously across the country.

The event will be held Saturday at the American Karate Escrima Association School of Self Defense, 302 E. Main St. The school is at the corner of Auburn Way and Main Street, below the Masonic Temple.

The community is invited to see martial arts demonstrations at 9:30 a.m., followed by the kick-a-thon from 10 to 11 a.m.

The American Karate Escrima Association School of Self Defense is participating in a national fundraising event to help local children.

Donations from the event will go to Hopeful Tomorrow, a national children’s charity dedicated to providing less fortunate children the opportunity to pursue their passion and dreams in physical, cultural and fine arts programs.

The money raised will provide scholarships for local disadvantaged and at-risk children to have the opportunity to participate in martial arts programs.
