Large convoy converges to support Special Olympics

A field of approximately 175 truck drivers from across Washington came together to participate in the World’s Largest Truck Convoy last weekend. The event is held annually to raise awareness and funds for the 8,000 athletes of Washington Special Olympics.

Jack Jesse from the History Channel’s “Ice Road Truckers” series was on hand to meet and greet the drivers and lead the convoy from the Tacoma Dome to the Insurance Auto Auction in Seattle last Saturday. Jesse said it was a rare occasion to have law enforcement “in front of him” and enjoyed the time driving on a surface that was not melting.

Once the convoy made it onto Interstate 5 it convoy stretched five miles long.

After arriving in Seattle, drivers participated in several activities, including a burnout-style smoke show, truck show and music from the band “Heartless”.

Approximately 400 people attended this year’s event, which raised $27,000.

Police officers from Auburn, Tukwila and Bothell helped with the convoy as part of their role in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
