Marine Corps veteran pulls driver out of burning semi-truck

Driver in critical condition after semi-truck rolls, catches fire in Auburn

Two people were injured when a semitruck tipped over and caught fire in Auburn on Monday evening.

At about 5:15 p.m. May 2, the semitruck was traveling east on State Route 18 and took the curved exit toward State Route 167, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP). The vehicle failed to negotiate the curve, causing the load to shift, state patrol reported.

After rolling onto its side, the semitruck was engulfed in flames. A nearby good Samaritan, who is a United States Marine Corps veteran, pulled the driver from the cab of the truck, according to South King Fire and Rescue.

The driver is in critical condition with multiple burns and he was transported to Harborview Medical Center by King County Medic One. The veteran sustained minor injuries and burns, according to the fire department.

Speed was determined to be the cause of the crash, according to WSP.
