Mom, son burned while cooking

A boy suffered severe burns from a cooking accident in his Pacific home Tuesday afternoon.

Valley Regional Fire Authority personnel responded to a report of a boy suffering burns while attempting to cook a meal at the 200 block of Ellingson Drive in Pacific. The boy’s clothes caught fire when he contacted the burner.

Firefighters and King County Medics determined the patient was suffering from second- and third-degree burns over about half of his back. His mother had second-degree burns to both hands from attempting to extinguish the fire.

Both were treated at the scene and transported to Harborview Medical Center by King County Medics. The home wasn’t damaged in the incident.
