The incident occurred around about 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The 62-year-old Olympia man was doing practice laps at the time of the collision. He came out of a straightaway at high speed and into a curve, but lost control of his Honda CB950 as it began to slide on its side. The cycle left the roadway and collided with a tire barrier. The driver was airlifted to Harborview.

The event was sponsored by the Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association. The race was canceled and the track shut down immediately after the accident. The Sheriff’s Office was notified and major-accident detectives conducted the investigation.
