Police search for suspect in car bombing

The bomb destroyed the victim’s car and surrounding trees

Auburn Police are looking for the suspect in a car bombing that took place during a funeral on Tuesday, August 23.

During a funeral at Mountainview Cemetary, a person put an explosive device in the car of one of the funeral attendees, according to the Auburn Police Department. The bomb detonated, destroying the victim’s car and trees surrounding with an intense fire.

The cost of the damage is not yet known and police haven’t identified a motive for this bombing, a spokesperson for the Auburn Police Department said.

City employees followed the suspect’s vehicle as it fled the cemetery, a passenger in the suspect vehicle started shooting at the city employees in pursuit. Luckily no one was injured by the bomb or the shooting, according to an Auburn police spokesperson.

The vehicle is a dark-colored sedan and thought to be a black Acura RL, the person who planted the bomb wore a ski mask during the crime but was described as a tall man.
