The Washington State Senate today honored the Miss Auburn Scholarship Program in a resolution sponsored by Sen. Joe Fain (R-Auburn).

Miss Auburn Jacque Guyette and Miss Auburn President Tamie Bothell visited the Capitol as Fain’s guests while the Senate recognized the program’s community outreach and scholarship opportunities for local students.

“The Miss Auburn Scholarship Program does incredible good for young women in our community and serves as an example throughout the country,” said Fain, who previously served as a judge for the competition. “Not only does the program provide increased opportunities for higher education, but it also provides young women from South King County with the opportunity to become more civically engaged and develop leadership skills. I was pleased to be able to recognize Miss Guyette’s accomplishments here in front of the entire state.”

Guyette, born and raised in Auburn, attended Auburn Riverside High School and is now a senior at the University of Washington. Guyette has been a strong supporter of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and teaches dance at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Federal Way. Her platform for the competition focused on Heart Health and Women’s Cardiac research to support early detection for women’s heart health.

The Miss Auburn Scholarship Program is the largest community scholarship competition of its kind in the state and is supported by the Auburn Noon Lions Club.

Fain has hosted Miss Auburn in Olympia for three consecutive years.
