Come May, a city sidewalk improvement project gets underway to add missing sections of sidewalk, Americans with Disability Act improvements and LED lighting on Auburn Way North.

Also, on Auburn Avenue just south of 5th Street Northeast, it will install a rectangular, rapid-flashing beacon.

On Monday, the Auburn City Council awarded the $395,812 contract to Rino Construction. Out of seven responsive bids the city received, Rino’s winning bid was $391,260, about 9.3 percent below the engineer’s estimate. The total contract price adds $4,552 in Washington state sales tax.

City staff performed reference checks and other verifications to determine that Rino met all the responsible bidding criteria.

The project should wrap this August.
