SR 18 crash kills Gig Harbor driver

A 27-year-old Gig Harbor man died as a result of a two-vehicle fatal traffic collision at approximately 11:51 p.m. May 11 near Auburn.

A 38-year-old Bellevue man faces charges including vehicular homicide and driving under the influence. The collision resulted as of the 38-year-old driving the wrong way on State Route 18, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The 38-year-old’s vehicle, heading westbound in the eastbound lanes of SR 18, struck the 27-year-old’s vehicle head on east of 312th Street. The 27-year-old’s vehicle crashed into a barrier and arrived to a stop in lane one. The 38-year-old’s vehicle arrived to a stop in the median on the left shoulder.

A 25-year-old Covington woman punctured a tire on debris from the collision. She suffered no injuries.

The 27-year-old man died at the scene, according to the state patrol. First responders transported the 38-year-old man to Harborview Medical Center.

The collision resulted in roadway blockages for four hours and 26 minutes.
