Students throughout Washington are encouraged to submit questions about the state’s upcoming ballot measures, with the answers to be revealed on TVW in October.

Questions for the TVW kids’ forum are due Oct. 14. Students may submit their questions to the Mock Election website at www.sos.wa.gov/elections/mock/.

Questions regarding the 2010 measures will be answered on statewide television by a notable guest panel in front of a live student audience.

“Student voters may have different concerns than adults,” said Secretary of State Sam Reed. “This forum gives kids a chance to have their questions answered before they vote in the Mock Election.”

Watch the kids’ forum on TVW www.teachwithtvw.org, Washington’s public affairs TV network, on Oct. 21.

The Mock Election, which will be held Oct. 25-29, is a valuable educational experience designed to establish good voting habits. Students vote for the same statewide candidates and measures adults see on their ballots (K-4 students are given more age-appropriate measures). Students can read about the 2010 ballot measures using the Online Voters’ Guide <a href="http://wei.secstate.wa.gov/osos/en/PreviousElections/2010/general/Pages/OVG_20101102.aspx#ososTop

“Every voter, whether they’re kids or adults, should know the facts before they vote,” Reed said.
