Troop 401’s Johnson joins Eagle Scout ranks

Troop 401’s exclusive Eagle Scout fraternity continues to grow.

Alex Johnson became the latest from the Auburn pack to earn the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program. He officially accepted the title at a special court of honor ceremony Saturday at the Auburn First United Methodist Church.

“It feels pretty good. I feel accomplished,” said Johnson, who soon will turn 18. “Overall, it is a pretty difficult thing. But I took it one step at a time. I broke it down into segments and focused on accomplishing one thing at a time.”

Johnson, a senior at Auburn Mountainview High School, officially joins Will Cadra from today’s troop as an Eagle Scout. John Irwin and Aaron Prenevost soon will follow.

Troop 401, which celebrated its 85th anniversary last year, is the longest-running Boy Scout outfit in lower King County and one of the oldest units in its council and in the state.

Johnson, who has been in Scouting for seven years, earned all the requirements necessary for the Eagle Scout rank, culminating with his service project – building several stands for the school newspaper.

“Alex is a good-hearted kid and intensely motivated,” said his father, Scott Johnson, Troop 401 assistant Scoutmaster.

Jeff Gering, Troop 401 Scoutmaster, added: “He’s a very driven kid. He’s done an exceptional job of leading and being there every time we needed him.”

Scouting has been a big part of the young man’s life.

“It taught me a lot of responsibility, leadership and the importance of being involved in the community,” he said.

The 6-foot-3 Johnson, son of Scott and Deborah Johnson, plans to one day produce or direct films. He intends to remain in Scouting as an adult leader.
